The True Meaning of the Swastika
I originally wrote this on Friday, August 16th, 2013.
Known for
its misuse by the Nazis of the 20th century, The
swastika (also known as a gammadion or bakenkreuz, etc.) was born
from the conviction of the divine origin of life is a cross
with bent ends, or "legs". Similar to a Christian cross, it is a
symbol of return and in China stands for infinity. It is also the symbol
of the sun and the cosmos. It represents that all life is warmth,
fire, burning, and rotation. It is also the sign of nobility, healing and
protection. The rotation of the legs to the right represents "yang"
or increasing (positive) energy, and the rotation of the legs to the left
stands for "yin" or decreasing (negative) energy. So in a
way, it represents balance. If pictured
in a circle, it means renewal and if pictured
with 5 swastikas and 5 bats with the sign of longevity, it
signifies luck multiplied by 5 and a long life.
