easy cosplay ideas! (+ improvisation advice & more on the affordable side)

Harley Quinn (DC)

a full classic jester suit is usually around $30-$40 on eBay. I'm sure that an even lower-priced one could be found on AliExpress. a separate mask can also be bought, or face paint can be used instead. head cowl or pigtails can be utilized. super simple and doesn't require many materials, costume can even be improvised, but more items and features can be added onto the cosplay.

alternatively, Dr. Harleen Quinzel can be cosplayed with a professional work suit or a doctor's coat (depending on whether you view her as a psychologist or a psychiatrist, I personally remember her being a psychologist, and then they started calling her a psychiatrist - which is different, btw. maybe it's a Mandela effect, I dunno. lol), and some glasses.

The Joker

also another super simple cos idea. can buy a suit or improvise with any Joker-suit-themed shirt or outfit, wig can be used OR colourful hairspray OR an editing app such as Meitu or FaceTune2. add some makeup/facepaint onto that, and that's basically it. the cos can stand alone like that or some other props/features can be added onto that. yellow teeth not required, lol.

L (Death Note)

this one is also really simple. a costume can be worn or just wear a white t-shirt or dress shirt, some dark pants, and either a wig, dark colour spray for hair, OR edit with an app, and contacts can be used for the eyes, or they can also be edited in the app. add some dark eyeshadow or smudge some dark eyeliner around the eyes. easy peasy.

Homura Akemi (Madoka Magica)

also kind of simple. she has long black hair, which is either in braids or straight down - a wig or extensions and clip-in bangs can be used, black hair spray can be used or an editing app for the hair colour, purple contacts / circle lenses can be used or edit the eyes as well. a white dress shirt (with or without a beige/taupe/white jacket or sweater), a black or grey or dark plaid skirt, dark leggings or tights, and a red bow can all be worn to simulate her casual outfit, or a costume can be purchased online.

Middle-Ground Vegan Commentary: Lacto-Veganism? & more /// 31 May 2021

(1) eggs are animal dna always meant to become baby animals if fertilized, exactly as human eggs are always meant to become baby humans, etc.

(2) milk isn’t dna meant to become a living being w/ a nervous system. I can see the potential for milk to be more humane/ethical (in very specific cases w/ specific limitations, I’m not saying just in general, I’m against industry production/selling of milk...

(3) ...but I can see the potential OUTSIDE OF industry milk harvesting/production.) some examples would be if someone had milk-producing animals that were absolutely not kept “for meat”, they were allowed to roam and eat grass, they weren’t forced to be impregnated...

(4) ...(nor allowed to constantly become pregnant?) they let the babies drink as much milk as they needed and let the babies and mothers stay together, and didn’t force the mothers to keep giving milk for a long time once the babies aren’t weaned. those are a few examples.

(5) I’m also not saying that it’s a perfect scenario. one of the really big problems occurs if they decide to sell the milk, that’s a whole big slippery slope even if they disclose the humane/ethical aspects, bc supply-and-demand is a whole slippery slope, itself.

(6) it’s one of the biggest issues (if not the biggest issue) with the whole dairy industry. demand goes up, they become more greedy, they want to make more profits, they cut corners to make the most “product” for the least amount of “cost” and “effort”...

(7) supply goes up, profit goes up, but at the cost and suffering of the animals. even God doesn’t like cruelty to animals, there are so many verses about it. two people in the Bible were even cursed for brutalizing an animal “for fun”.

(8) the “diet” in the garden of Eden seems to have been vegan/vegetarian, and it also seems (according to the Bible) that it will return to that during the Millenial Reign of Jesus / when heaven is brought down to earth after that.

(9) also, I just wanted to add that not all mammals need to be pregnant or have a baby/babies to naturally produce milk. another thing to consider.

(11) one thing I want to point out is that they bother to use the term “lacto-vegan” but speak about veganism/vegans with contempt and/or disdain. why even bother using the “vegan” term at all, then?

(13) ...veganism, so I really don’t see the point of bothering to be called “lacto-vegan” while promoting anti-veganism. (or also the point of using the term “vegan”/“vegetarian” at all if eggs are involved.)

(14) it doesn’t make sense for one to try to say that some animal byproducts can, in fact, be congruent to vegan ethics and use the term “vegan” (with a prefix), therefore aligning their self to vegan principles, while at the same time promoting anti-veganism.

(16) some are what I call “extreme puritanical”, some are what I call “extreme hypoliticritical” (“hypocritical”/“political”). these are *extreme* cases. I’ve actually found a lot of vegan commentary online over the past year that are more middle-ground-leaning / less extreme.
