Types of Models and Modeling Myths

This is a topic that really should have been discussed a long time ago, because these myths NEED to be extinguished. I have had so many people telling me: "Be careful of modeling, they'll make you lose a lot of weight," "Models aren't allowed to eat," and "You'll get an eating disorder." And what I'd just like to say to them is: Have you EVER been a model? No? THEN SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP BECAUSE YOUR ARGUMENT IS INVALID. I don't care if you're some kind of doctor or something, you have no place to say something about something you have never experienced.. NOT every single person is going to "develop health problems" with modeling. If you haven't been in the modeling world, don't assume the "modeling requirements" or that there even are any. Which brings me to my next point, the types of modeling. There are the Runway/Agency Models, who are represented by an agency and told when/where/why (although there is a requirement for these runway models -and even ballet performers, just to bust that myth as well- to be OVER a certain weight, and they are not allowed to model if they are emaciated.) Then there are the Independent models (which I happen to be) who manage and market themselves. I do not have an agent. I choose when I go to a shoot. To quote Pretty Woman (in a different sense): "I say when and I say where and I say how much." I currently model with a group of models & photographers (although I have gotten many offers otherwise). I choose my own wardrobe, makeup, and hair (Although there is almost always a M.U.A.H. present). I choose how I dress & pose. I do NOT dress or pose seductively. yes, I CHOOSE. I am not told by anyone to lose weight, eat less, appear a certain way, because they have no business doing so. If ever asked if I want an agent, I will flatly say no. And by the way, if a model is told to lose weight, that doesn't mean they are suddenly going to develop eating problems. Too many people in society focus on weight loss, but when we see models: OH NO, THEY HAVE EATING PROBLEMS. Have you ever heard that models have been asked to GAIN WEIGHT before? No? Then you're probably only paying attention to meaningless gossip. Also, did you realize that makeup and photo re-touching can be used to make people look more frail and fragile for fine art photography? Well, they can. I've used makeup to look more frail than I am for Tim Burton style photos and also to look like a zombie (hollow eyes, prominent cheek bones and collar bones, etc.) So please think before you spread rumors about modeling.

The True Meaning of the Swastika

The True Meaning of the Swastika
I originally wrote this on Friday, August 16th, 2013.

Known for its misuse by the Nazis of the 20th century, The swastika (also known as a gammadion or bakenkreuz, etc.) was born from the conviction of the divine origin of life is a cross with bent ends, or "legs". Similar to a Christian cross, it is a symbol of return and in China stands for infinity. It is also the symbol of the sun and the cosmos. It represents that all life is warmth, fire, burning, and rotation. It is also the sign of nobility, healing and protection. The rotation of the legs to the right represents "yang" or increasing (positive) energy, and the rotation of the legs to the left stands for "yin" or decreasing (negative) energy. So in a way, it represents balance. If pictured in a circle, it means renewal and if pictured with 5 swastikas and 5 bats with the sign of longevity, it signifies luck multiplied by 5 and a long life.

Low Calorie Vegan Snack/Appetizer Idea of the Day: Tortilla Chips & Salsa Bean Dip!!

Tortilla Chips & Salsa Bean Dip - 280 calories

3/4 cups "vegetarian" (suitable for vegans) refried beans
3 tablespoons Salsa (I used Tostito's Cantina in Medium spice)
9 Tortilla chips

Heat the beans until fairly warm/hot, mix in the salsa, and enjoy with chips.
For a variation, you can add some lettuce, tomatoes, onions, soy cheese, and
crush some tortilla chips in it, and mix it up to create a sort of "taco salad".

Movie Review: "The Uninvited" with Emily Browning **SPOILER ALERT**

So I just finished watching "The Uninvited", starring Emily Browning. I had seen a girl that reminded me of the actress, so I was interested to look up her name. Upon finding her IMDb page, I saw something familiar, It was the movie photo of a shadow peering in through a dark window (an image that was in the background of one of my recent modeling photos, so I was interested to know that that photo belonged to a movie, nonetheless starring an actress that I really liked.) So I decided to watch the movie. The Uninvited is a psychological thriller directed by the Guard Brothers, and is very much like the movie "American Psycho" (starring Christian Bale) which I reviewed about a month ago.

It begins with our main character, Anna Rydell (Emily Browning), having a dream, and then she is explaining the dream to her therapist. She is in the hospital due to trauma after her mother died in a tragic fire. She has a discussion with him about how she can't remember certain details of the night of the fire. She leaves the hospital with her father, and it turns out that he is engaging in relations with the nurse that the family hired to take care of her mother when she was ill prior to the fire. Anna and her sister, Alex (Arielle Kebbel), suspect that the nurse that goes by the name "Rachel Summers" (played by Elizabeth Banks) murdered their mother. Over the course of the movie, Anna's mother tries to communicate with her from the other side, she has many hallucinations, the two sisters try to warn their father about Rachel but he brushes them off. One day, their father leaves and Rachel tries to hurt them, Anna tries to talk to the police and tell them she thinks Rachel is really a woman named "Mildred Kemp" wanted for killing 3 children of whom she was a nanny, but the police man sends her home with Rachel, drugged to sleep and hardly able to move. She wakes up and sees blood leading down the stairs and to the dumpster outside. She opens it, pushes aside a trash bag, and sees Rachel's blood-covered face, and turns to see her sister, wielding a knife. They embrace. Their father comes pulls into the driveway to see them covered in blood and holding a knife. Anna tries to explain that Alex had to do it.. He doesn't understand and he tell her that her sister, Alex, died in the fire the year before.. Anna is confused.. She snaps back into reality and suddenly remembers everything that she couldn't in the beginning of the movie. She had seen the nanny and her father in a compromising position, she left angrily and went to the little boat house to get some gasoline, her sister is drunk and trying to talk to her, but Anna leaves. Alex closes the door to the boat house and the force knocks over the lantern. The gasoline was left dripping, and it catches fire. Alex goes in to check on their mother, and the little house explodes in flames. The movie ends with Anna ending up back in the hospital, and we find out Mildred Kemp was one of the hospital wards that Anna knew and Rachel wasn't a murderer, she only changed her last name because she was running away from an abusive ex-boyfriend.. When Anna sees her therapist she says, "I finished what I started."

Wow, so this movie really has me going. Just like with American Psycho, I HAD to read a plot analysis of this movie. Whenever I watch a movie that leaves a lot of unanswered questions about what happened and what didn't, it makes me want to get to the bottom of it and find out what really happened and how much of what we saw was the reality and what was only in Anna's perception! I believe that what Anna meant by "I finished what I started" is this: She was about to try to kill the nurse somehow with the gasoline, and she had finally finished it. She had blocked out the memories of the deaths of her mother and sister because she had not intended for them to happen, and it traumatized her. This movie really has you asking all kind of questions and thinking very deeply. I give this movie a 10/10! I'd really like to hear your opinion about this movie, so leave me a comment below telling me what you thought, maybe one of your theories about the plot, your favourite scene, what rating you'd give it, or anything else! Until my next post, Ciao!

If I Could Invent One Thing That Would Make the World a Better Place...

If I could invent one thing to make the earth a better place...
I would have to choose a teleporter. Why? Because it would save a lot of money on transportation and would prevent depression and loneliness. Say you are lonely, and you want to visit your significant other, your best friend, or your family.. If you can't you might become depressed. With a teleporter, you wouldn't have to wait so long that you'd become depressed. And if you were poor and starving, you could teleport yourself to a farm, take some food, and teleport back in minutes. You could be like the guy in "Jumper". You could visit foreign countries, you could visit family in different parts of the world. You would never have to be lonely or in need, and with all the money saved from not buying gas or paying for the bus/train/plane, you could pay for other things! No more animals would get hit by cars! You could save time on your commute or bus ride to school, which would give you more time to get ready! So that's what I would choose...
A teleportation device.
What would you invent?

Dresses and How They Can Cause Anxiety

So, as you all may know, I am going to a promotional shoot for a perfume, which I am not going to name just yet, because I'm not sure if I'm supposed to... So the head photographer wants a specific dress, which I do not think I will be able to find or buy, since I sure as heck don't have one like it. (See below picture.)

So he wants a dress like that, and I'm just thinking that, wow, that thing is going to be expensive. I'm really procrastinating on going shopping right now, because I'm hoping that he will decide one of the alternatives for this dress -that I have sent him pictures of- will be good enough. If not, then I guess I will have to dish out. And, honestly, the look on that model's face is just intimidating.. I don't know, I guess the dress has to be Red Carpet looking, or good enough for a Cat Walk. The photographers also said that I don't have to go buy a dress for the shoot. So I sent him a picture of the dress I wore in my Huge Summer Haul video/post last year (for those of you that remember..and for those of you that don't, I'll be posting a picture...right...now.)

and also this one

You may remember this last dress from my Christmas shoot

AFreeman Photography

I honestly have "a lot" of dresses, just maybe not the kind that look "Red Carpet" or "Cat Walk".
Katherine Heigl thought SHE had a lot of dresses in 27 dresses, but I have more than that! they should make a movie about me! Just kidding! Let me know if you like the above pictures, or which of the two that you
like the best. I really want to know what you guys think!

My Childhood Dream of Writing for a Magazine

Let me start this off by saying, I'm pretty sure we're all familiar with the Bratz Dolls, right?
Yes? Good. No? Please look them up before continuing.~

So, when I was younger, about 10 or 11 years old, I was very into the Bratz. I did not have a lot of the dolls, just a few. But I had the movie "Bratz: Rock Angelz" and it inspired me to have these little fantasies about having my own magazine. I would draw things that I thought I might want to put in my magazine and write down article ideas. I wasn't very into fashion (or I wasn't very fashionable, take your pick), but I thought that I'd like to be someday. Then there was a period of time where I completely hated the words  "fashion", "fashionista", "style", and "trends". I still do hate some of those words. But I've grown into a style and fashion lover over the past 2 years, and that dream has re-awakened inside of me. I've been responding to ads on craigslist to write for online magazines, and I almost got accepted by one called "Beyond Pink", but they turned me down because that they have articles about alcohol in their magazine and they think it's "illegal" to have an 18-year-old write on a blog that talks about alcohol (in a separate section), which I thought to be VERY silly because I would not be the one writing about it, . Since then, I have applied to possibly 5-10 other online magazines. I don't wish to write for a print magazine just yet, but someday! A lot of people have told me that I should be a journalist, because I'm always taking notes, always researching things that interest me, and blogging or filming videos about it.
This is still one of my hidden dreams, I guess..
Someday.

Wet n Wild Fantasy Makers Black Noir Lipstick Review

I wore the lipstick at my last shoot (Photo by Allen Freeman)

I bought this lipstick off of Ebay.com, and although it's not the best quality brand in the world (Wet n Wild)

Pros:
Pretty good for the price of $3.19.
It has a creamy consistency and feel on the lips
Wet n Wild is a cruelty-free brand
The colour is really beautiful and intense

Cons:
It's not really long wearing, as it feathers easily (it bleeds or it fans out from the lips and leaves tiny smudges after a few hours.)

I give it a grade of B- (B minus) though, because I do like the lipstick, apart from the feathering.
Would I buy it again? yes.
Would I recommend it to a friend? yes.

(In an alternative opinion my friend bought one and it arrive melted, but I believe that
was an accident and of course not the brand's fault. The seller was Mazonfurniture on Ebay.)
